Organized youth activities, kid-friendly dances. Last year the kids' parade was just fabulous!
Set up the dance hall. Cut up vegetables. Greet and park people. So many ways to help.
Saturday afternoon schedule: Chill out. Catch up.
Waltzes in the morning. Contra in the evenings. Daytime workshops like Squares for Contradancers, English (Contra's Smarter Older Brother), and Swing (both kinds). A kid's parade and dance was a huge hit last year! Late at night, wander between Blues dance, the campfire sing, and impromptu afterparties.
Come early (2 PM) on Friday and swim before things get started. We don't schedule much on Saturday afternoon. It's just hangout time. Or maybe air-mattress derby time. And maybe a little swing dance time. But mostly we want you to catch up with old friends, meet new friends, play tunes, relax, and enjoy the weekend.
Diane Silver organizes an excellent crew of callers - possibly including you!
Laura Light pulls together musicians from Asheville's primo local talent, like Curious George, Elftones, Flying the Tune, Avant Gardeners, Steamshovel, the Atlanta Open Band, and of course our own Asheville Open Band. The stage welcomes all musicians!
Face-to-face playtime is the essence of community dance. Watching a 6-year-old's face light up as she goes down the center and back with you; helpless laughter as the other air mattress team flails toward shore; solid pleasure as you and your partner share the weight to great music; the thrill of playing in the band; it's all here.
